Wildfire near Springville and Mapleton prompts emergency alerts and evacuation preparations |
SPRINGVILLE, Utah — A rapidly growing wildfire, known as the Cherry Fire, has engulfed more than 650 acres east of Springville and Mapleton in Hobble Creek Canyon, as reported by the U.S. Forest Service on Friday evening.
The blaze, which ignited on Thursday afternoon, remains at 0% containment. Firefighters are actively combating the flames with both ground crews and aerial resources.
Friday's weather conditions, characterized by erratic winds and temperatures peaking in the 70s, have complicated firefighting efforts. The U.S. Forest Service anticipates continued challenges, with thunderstorms and unpredictable winds forecasted for Saturday.
In response to the fire's rapid expansion, Utah County Emergency Management issued alerts on Friday afternoon. Residents from Left Fork Hobble Creek to the Strawberry area have been placed in a 'set' status, indicating they should be prepared to evacuate if necessary. Additionally, evacuation orders are in effect for campsites in the Right Hand Fork of Hobble Creek.
The Cherry Fire's origin is currently under investigation. Authorities urge the public to avoid the affected areas to ensure the safety of both residents and emergency personnel.
As the situation develops, residents are advised to stay informed through official channels and adhere to any evacuation orders promptly. |
